Inauguration of the new library for Mirissa School

A team of 48 teachers supported by 8 maintenance staff welcomes daily more than 600 students aged between 6 and 13 years old.

The Mirissa School which is located close to the sea was badly damaged by the tsunami. Several classrooms, the laboratory and the library were completely destroyed. Roughly 25% of the schoolbooks got lost or could not be used anymore.

However, this school managed to take up the educational activities as from mid-January, after the most urgent repairs were completed.

The 20th May 2005 the new library of the Mirissa School was inaugurated with an official opening ceremony. Mr. Pringiers, Director of the SLSCRP fund and Honorary Consul for Belgium, handed over the library to the Principal of the school Mr. K.H.J. Kularatne.

Besides tables and chairs the SLSCRP also bought 765 books, of which the estimated cost totals up to 110,000 Rupees (1,100 USD).
