

Opening Kumbalgama IDP camp
On the 4th of February the Belgian army opened the IDP camp (internally displaced people) in Kumbalgama, which was strategic deadline to finish the constructions as the Srilankans celebrate their independency that day.
With the opening the first 30 families moved into the shelter, but in total the camp has a capacity of 70 families which represents about 350 persons. Yesterday the last infrastructure works were completed together with the kitchen building. The camp is fully equipped to accommodate the tsunami victims in a comfortable way. Even a TV room is part of the facilities.
This camp was built by the Belgian army in close corporation with the "Sri Lanka Southern Coast Reconstruction Program". The openings ceremony was lead by Colonel Van Goethem and representants of Loadstar Pvt. Ltd. in presence of the local authorities. Several food items and kitchen instruments were distributed to the first habitants.
