Construction starts of the Cinnamon Garden model house

Thursday, the 14th of July, 2005, after 4 months of land preparation at the Cinnamon Garden site, Mr Tissa Jinasena, one of the SLRT trustees, and Mr Lakshman Rasaputram, Manager of the SLRT, have inaugurated the construction of the model house in the future housing scheme situated in Polathumodara, Matara district.

In this 32-acre land we plan to build 200 houses for the people who lived, before the tsunami, within the 100m buffer zone, where the Sri Lankan Government, for safety reasons, doesn’t allow any new constructions.

The surface of 1 house is 654 square feet, constructed on an 8 perches land. These 1-storey houses consist of 2 rooms, 1 living room, 1 kitchen, 2 verandas and 1 bathroom. Thanks to this model house the people, presently living in the various transitional camps, but who will finally occupy the houses can give us their helpful suggestions and comments. A list with the proposed beneficiaries has already been submitted to the Government for approval.

Tropical Fusion, the architect we have chosen after a call for tender, will manage the construction.

SLRT will continue the land preparations and also the construction of a new road to improve the access to the housing site, which is situated about 1.5km away from the main road Galle-Matara.

Inauguration de la construction de la maison témoin de Cinnamon Garden

Le jeudi 14 juillet 2005, après 4 mois de préparation du terrain de 32 acres de Cinnamon Garden, M. Tissa Jinasena, co-fondateur du SLRT, M. Lakshman, manager de SLRT ont inauguré les premiers travaux de construction de la maison témoin de ce futur site d’habitation situé à Poluthumodara, dans le district de Matara.

Sur ce site, nous prévoyons de construire 200 maisons pour les personnes qui vivaient, avant le tsunami, à Pelena Sud, à l’intérieur de la zone des 100m, zone dans laquelle, par mesure de sécurité, le Gouvernement interdit désormais toute nouvelle construction.

D’une surface de 654 square feet, sur un terrain de 8 perches, ces maisons seront constituées de deux chambres, un living room, une cuisine, deux vérandas, et une salle d’eau. La maison témoin permettra aux familles souhaitant venir s’installer sur ce site de venir la visiter et de donner leur avis sur leur futur lieu de vie. A l’heure actuelle, grâ aux travail quotidien de nos équipes, des listes de bénéficiaires potentiels ont ḏores et déjà été communiquées aux autorités Gouvernementales.

Le cabinet d’architecte Tropical Fusion, cabinet retenu après appel d’offres, dirigera les opérations de construction.

Le SLRT continue pour sa part les travaux de préparation du terrain, ainsi que les travaux de construction d’une route d’accès qui devrait faciliter l’accès du terrain qui est éloigné d’environ 1.5 km de la route principale allant de Galle à Matara.
