Your donations gifted to the local fishermen

Mr. Shantha from Pelena was happy to return back to the sea on 22nd February with his new 16 feet catamaran. The cost of this boat is about 105,000 Rupees or roughly 1,050 USD.

Three days earlier we released already several fishing boats in the same area, which have been repaired by the Belgian army together with the Southern Coast Reconstruction Program. The Belgian army contingent based in Weligama gave us a valuable support for the repair of in- and outboard engines as they have the right expertise. With their last replacement of the detachment they also brought 5 new outboard engines, which were donated on 18th February to the fishermen of Kapparatota area.

Mr. Pierre Pringiers Honorary Consul of Belgium in Sri Lanka donated the first fishing catamaran at the end of January.

After the completion of most of the work in the Mirissa - and Weligama harbour our fishery rehabilitation activities have expanded to Pelena, Kapparatota and Denuwala.
The repair works of engines and boats are mainly undertaken in the workshops set up in the early beginning in Mirissa and Weligamma.
