Vesak celebrations

The majority of the Sri Lankans believes in Lord Buddha's doctrine. According to the Buddhist religion, Buddha's birth, enlightenment and passing away, all three took place on one and the same day: the Vesak Full Moon Poya day of May. Every year various activities are organized on this full moon day. The Buddhists visit the temple, make Pandols or Vesak lanterns to celebrate this religious festivity.

On May 20th, SLSCRP organized a Vesak Lantern competition between 7 temporary camps:
1) Labeema Camp
2) Gurubebila Camp
3) Pathegama Camp
4) Pelena, Camp
5) Senanayaka Camp
6) Samudra Theera Camp
7) Pradesiya Saba Camp

All together 110 Vesak lanterns were counted in all the camps.
The Loadstar panel selected the best Vesak lantern makers and handed over valuable gifts for the winners. 21 Winners were selected in the 7 camps, 3 winners in each camp. The third place was rewarded with a water thermos, the second place with an electric torch and for the first place an electric iron.
The SLSCRP also organized a pilgrimage to the temple of Kataragama.
