Another 135 fishing nets distributed in Pelena.
The 5th September, another distribution of fishing nets has been organized by Mr. Koenraad Pringiers, trustee of the SLRT and Mr. Lakshman Rasaputram, General Manager of the SLRT. A total of 135 fishing nets were distributed to 45 recipients who own a 28 feet boat. These 28 feet boats or also called 1-day boats can go out in the deep seas for 24 hours with 5 fishermen on board and have a capacity of 1,800 to 2,000 kg. Their main catch is tuna.
This allocation follows the one, which took place during the month of August, were 460 fishing nets have been given to 92 fishermen in Mirissa area. It is only thanks to several months of hard work by Mr. Chandana Pemadasa, responsible for the SLRT fishery rehabilitation, who collected all the necessary data from the fishermen in collaboration with the fisheries inspector of the Sri Lankan Government that this project could be realized.
By distributing 595 fishing nets we helped 137 fishermen living in the coastal stretch between Mirissa and Weligama. Another reel success!
